God is everywhere in this universe. That is the reason why God is beautifully explained in Sanskrit as ‘sarvantharyami’. We fail to recognize God in our fellow human beings. We travel long distances in search of God. God is a kind of external power that guides us in our happiness and our sadness as well. We have given so many names and so many shapes to  God as per our religious practices. Christians call him Jesus. Hindus fondly gave him numerous names and shapes. Muslims call him Allah. Muslims believe God has no shape. Hindus believe that it is extremely difficult to concentrate on God having no shape. So they worship God in feminine form and masculine form as well. Muslims say how the mere mortals can dare to give a particular shape to God. Even Hinduism mentions God is shapeless and nameless. No one knows whether God is a male or a female.

It is a male dominated society irrespective of the religion since ages. So God has become practically a male. Human being is not a supreme authority in this planet. There are many things which we mere mortals don’t know and Science simply can’t explain. We need not go round the world for visiting various temples, churches, mosques and gurudwaras in search of God. We can coolly worship God in our own homes.

We spend huge amounts for visiting various religious places and donate unspecified amount to the God in the blind belief that if we give something willingly to God then He will bestow rewards many times in return. Please think over whether we are doing the right thing. God has never asked for it. Has God wholeheartedly accepted all the wealth donated by us or whether the religious authorities have comfortably siphoned off the complete wealth or part of the wealth?. Have we ever bothered to find out as to what happened to the wealth donated by us?. What is the use of this wealth if it is not used properly.

Don’t we have any social responsibility to help the needy? Our life is useless if we don’t help the needy. Please remember God will never appreciate us even if we visit His temples etc. a million times without understanding the human suffering. We can find God in our fellow human beings if only we have vision to see Him.

Saint Vemana observed one day that an old lady’s body was shivering due to cold during winter in front of a Temple. He immediately enters the Sanctum Sanctoram  and takes out a shawl covered on the Deity and covers the old lady with it. The Temple Priests get a shock of their lives and they protest strongly. Vemana told them what was the use of the shawl covered on the Deity if it’s not useful to a shivering old lady.

I simply love only one temple in the entire world. It’s Bahai or Lotus temple in New Delhi. This temple is in fact no temple but a temple. It means there are no statues in this temple. No one is barred. Everyone is welcome irrespective of religion. One has to simply offer prayer that too silently. No other temple is really needed. All these existing temples should provide shelter to the aged, under privileged, all physically and mentally handicapped people, all people suffering from serious illness, hapless widows and orphans.
